29 October 2018
The Banaskantha District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited popularly known as Banas Dairy will set up a new dairy processing plant with capacity to process 40 lakh litres per day (LLPD). Banas Dairy’s chairman Shankar Chaudhary said this at Raiya village in Deodar taluka.
"It will be a completely separate dairy processing plant that will help us enhance our milk processing capacity,” Chaudhary said. “The new dairy plant will be set up in Deodar taluka of Banaskantha district,” he said, adding that the proposed plant will require around Rs. 1,000 crore investments.
“The first phase of the project will see an investment of Rs. 400 crore to start the preliminary work,” he said, adding that the process for acquiring land and other formalities has been initiated by the milk union.
After Faridabad in the National Capital Region (NCR), Lucknow and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, the new dairy processing plant at Banaskantha will be the next big project of Asia’s largest milk union.
At present, the milk union procures 65 LLPD which according to Chaudhary is expected to touch one crore litres in the next five years.
“We want to commence operations of this new plant in the next two years so that as procurement of milk increases, we already have enhanced capacity in place,” he said.
